(Eagle News) — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised the alert status of Kanlaon, noting that the volcano was undergoing a “moderate level of unrest.”
In an advisory, PHIVOLCS as a result reminded local government units and the public that “entry into the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited ”
It said this was due to the “further possibilities of sudden and hazardous stean-driven or phreatic eruptions.”
“Civil aviation authorities must also advise pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejecta from any sudden phreatic eruption can be hazardous to aircraft,” PHIVOLCS said.
It noted that it was “closely monitoring” the volcano at present.
