Alvarez says he will try to convince Bong Go to run for senator in 2019

(Eagle News)–Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez  on Thursday said that he would prod Special Assistant to the President Bong Go to run for a Senate seat in the 2019 elections.

“I’d like to convince someone to run for senator. I’d like to convince Christopher Lawrence Go—do you know him?” Alvarez said in a speech during the oath-taking of new members of the ruling party, PDP-Laban, in Negros Oriental.

Alvarez made the statement even if Go has already rejected the idea, saying he was committed to serving President Rodrigo Duterte “(until) kingdom come.”

According to the Speaker, among those being groomed to be part of the PDP-Laban’s senatorial slate were Rep. Reynaldo Umali, Negros Occidental  Rep. Alfredo  Benitez and Rep. Sajid Mangudadatu.

Last year, he recommended Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, among others, to the ruling party ticket.
