Amid looming elections, Alunan calls for implementation of Oplan Paglalansag

(Eagle News) — A Department of the Interior and Local Government official on Monday, July 9, urged the Philippine National Police to restore its campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms.

In an interview over Net 25’s Agila Balita Alas Dose, Raffy Alunan, who introduced what is known as Oplan Paglalansag when he was Interior Secretary, also called for the return of the Barangay Intelligence Network to ensure the safety of officials as the elections approach.

Alunan said Oplan Paglalansag  “called for setting the rule that more than two armed men moving or assembling in a group constitute a private army that must be broken up and disarmed.”

“It also called for the recovery of loose firearms throughout the country,” he said.

According to Alunan, “dapat nakabantay sarado yung PNP at yung National Peace Council sa mga areas na sinasabing political hotspots para mabantayan na yan.”

He the country’s criminal justice system should also be reformed.

“Hire and select the right talent to provide public service and public safety. Bigyan sila ng bagong training at magandang equipment at proper leadership,” Alunan said.
