Amid rains, water levels in three major dams in Luzon rise

(Eagle News) — The water levels in three major dams in Luzon have risen as a result of the rains in the past few days, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Richard Orendain, PAGASA’s hydrologist, said in an interview over Net 25’s Agila Balita Alas Dose that the level of the water in Angat dam was now at 208.14 meters.

The normal high water level (NHWL) of Angat dam is 210.00 meters.

According to Orendain, the water level in La Mesa dam also increased and is now at 79.57 meters, close to its spilling level of 80.15.

The same can be said of the water level in Pantabangan dam, which is now at 206.57 meters.

The dam’s spilling level is 216.00 meters.

Water released

Unlike in these three dams, the water level in  Magat dam  in Isabela, has decreased to 14 meters.

The Ambuklao, Binga and San Roque dams continue to release water, authorities said.

“Kaya nga po nagpapakawala tayo dahil nga para maalagaan natin, yung seguridad ng structure nya. Kailangan nating pangalagaan dahil mahirap naman kung magkaroon ng dam break, na huwag naman sanang mangyari. Yun talaga ang iniingatan natin,” Orendain said.
