(Eagle News) — ABS-CBN temporarily shut down two of its online stores amid a reported data breach that may have allegedly exposed the information of over 200 customers.
“As of this time, there are 213 customers who may have been affected,” ABS-CBN said in its statement in explaining why it closed down its ABS-CBN store (store.abs-cbn.com) and UAAP Store (uaapstore.com) at 9:30 a.m.
The supposed data breach was reported by Willem de Groot, a consultant based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
According to Groot, the data was stolen via a malware during the checkout process.
The stolen information was then sent to a server registered in Irkutsk, Russia, and was presumably sold to the black market.
He said among those victimized by these hackers were British Airways and Ticketmaster.
According to ABS-CBN, it was already “closely working” with the National Privacy Commission.
It said it also “started reaching out to all our affected customers.”
“We also advise our customers not to give out additional personal and financial information to anyone who may be claiming to be an ABS-CBN representative,” ABS-CBN said.
“We assure our customers that their privacy and the security of their personal data are important to us and we will take measures to prevent this incident from happening again,” ABS-CBN added.
