QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News Service, June 5) – There is still that sleepy, provincial air that pervades the town of Angono, Rizal. But don’ t let the rice fields fool you, this town is known for its deep and abiding appreciation of the arts.
As a matter of fact, Angono is known as the “Arts Capital of the Philippines”. It is the hometown of two National Artists, Lucio San Pedro for music and Carlos “Botong” Francisco for arts. The town’s streets and sidewalks feature a lot of artworks like sculptures and murals.
Solidifying its reputation as the country’s art capital, Angono is home to the Angono Petroglyphs, considered as the oldest artwork in the Philippines. Said work of art is a rockwall that was engraved with stylized human and animal figures dating from the late Neolithic period.
With such a long history, Angono truly is the home of art.
