(Eagle News) — Trece Martires, Cavite Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan was killed a day after he announced his intention to run for mayor in the next polls.
This is according to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, who spoke in a television interview on Monday, July 9.
According to Año, they were therefore looking at politics as a possible motive behind his killing.
He said this was also one of the motives they were looking into in the killing of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija Ferdinand Bote.
“Yung kay Mayor Bote, kung saan isa siya sa pinagpipiliang tatakbong gubernador next year,” Año said.
Lubigan was killed as he was on his way home on Saturday, July 7.
Bote, on the other hand, had just left the National Irrigation Administration when he was shot by a gunman in Cabanatuan.
Earlier, Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili was killed as he was presiding over the city’s flag-raising ceremony.
