(Eagle News) — Retired Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Eduardo Año promised a “disciplined force” under his watch as the newly appointed officer in charge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
In an interview with reporters on Tuesday, Año said the changes would not only be “cosmetic.”
He said he would also ensure that the “service” of the police force would improve.
As such, he said the values formation of the policemen would take centerstage.
In his speech during turnover rites, Año also promised the DILG would “relentlessly and resolutely wage a campaign to rid the country of illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption.”
He said communism and violent extremism would also be addressed.
Año replaced Catalino Cuy, who was appointed head of the Dangerous Drugs Board by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Before he was appointed, Año, as AFP chief, headed government troops fighting local terrorists in Marawi, which was also declared liberated under his watch.
The former AFP chief retired last year, after reaching the mandatory age of retirement.
