MANILA, Dec. 4 — The 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, to be hosted by the Philippines, will seek to inspire greater confidence that, through the pursuit of the Bogor Goals, APEC member economies could build a vibrant and inclusive future for all.
“As the clamor for progress that leaves no one behind resounds the world over, the Philippines has the opportunity to set a global example of inclusivity this year,” President Benigno S. Aquino III said during the launch of the 2015 APEC logo and theme on Monday.
“We are rising, and will continue to rise to that challenge. Thus, I call on everyone here: Let us show the best of our country has to offer. Let us all strive to continue being a prominent example of how economic growth should be. Let us work together to show how we are building inclusive economies, and thus building a better world,” he said in his speech during the event, held in Makati City.
The APEC 2015 will carry the theme, “Building Inclusive Economies, Building A Better World.”
Key to achieving the APEC’s vision are the Bogor Goals, which were agreed upon by economic leaders during the 1994 APEC Summit in Bogor, Indonesia. To achieve these goals, APEC member economies developed a framework in Osaka, Japan in 1995, which set out three key areas of cooperation that came to be known as the three pillars of the APEC — trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation, and economic and technical cooperation.
The three pillars are represented by the three colors of the triangles in the APEC 2015 logo.
The logo’s triangle signifies balance and expresses the strong and stable economy borne of that quality.
In the midst of the 21 colored triangles in the logo is a light blue arrow pointed upward, signaling the sustained and shared resurgence of the APEC member economies.
The arrow’s light blue shade represents a member economy’s promising development, a result of positive engagement with the partners and adherence to sound macroeconomic fundamentals.
Overall, the APEC 2015 logo reflects the vision espoused by the Philippines in treading the path to a more progressive and equitable Asia-Pacific by building inclusive economies for a better world.(PCOO/ PND (as)
