(Eagle News) — Former President Benigno Aquino III showed up on Thursday at the Senate to serve as a resource speaker in the ongoing Dengvaxia probe.
Aquino arrived a few minutes before the inquiry scheduled at 10 a.m.
The probe is being held by the blue ribbon and health committees.
Also attending the probe were his Budget Secretary Butch Abad and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr.
Earlier, Aquino said he wanted to “participate in telling the truth to the people as we have always done; at the same time observing compliance to various laws, rules, traditions.”
The Dengvaxia snafu started when Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, admitted it could cause “serious cases” if administered to people who have not had dengue.
The vaccine was procured during Aquino’s time, and was used to vaccinate over 800,000 schoolchildren under his government’s dengue vaccination program in 2016.
