Here it is! Welcome back to school time! Are you ready for this?
Summer vacation is over and soon students will be going back to school.
Here’s a list of some back-to-school guidelines you’ll need to know before the school year starts. Happy reading!
According to Department Order No. 9, s. 2015 issued by Secretary of Education Armin Luistro, the official school year begins on June 1, 2015 and ends April 1, 2016.
The department order directs the heads of public and private elementary and secondary institutions nationwide to follow the school calendar.
Private schools may choose to deviate from DepEd’s official calendar. However, they may not start classes before the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August (as provided in Republic Act No. 7797).

Education in the Philippines is managed and regulated by the Department of Education, commonly referred to as the DepEd in the country. The Department of Education controls the Philippine education system, including the curriculum used in schools and the allocation of funds. It also regulates the construction of schools and other educational facilities and the recruitment of teachers and staff.
The Philippines is currently in the midst of a transition to a K-12 (also called K+12) basic education system. Education ideally begins with one year of kinder. Once the transition is complete, elementary or grade school comprises grades 1 to 6. Although the term student may refer to learners of any age or level, the term pupil is used by the Department of Education to refer to learners in the elementary level, particularly in public schools. Secondary level or high school comprises two major divisions: grades 7 to 10 will be collectively referred to as ‘junior high school’, whereas grades 11 to 12 will be collectively referred to as ‘senior high school’. The Department of Education refers to learners in grade 7 and above as students.
