(Eagle News) — Former immigration commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles posted on Tuesday a P60,000 bail each for their provisional liberty.
The bail, which they posted before the Sandiganbayan’s sixth division, was in connection with the charges for the one count each of violation of Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, direct bribery, and violation of Presidential Decree No. 46 filed against them in connection with the P50-million bribery scandal involving businessman Jack Lam and alleged middleman Wally Sombero in November 2016.
The Ombudsman accused Argosino and Robles of receiving the money in exchange for the release of Lam’s 1316 workers who were arrested by the immigration bureau allegedly for violating immigration laws.
The Sandiganbayan has yet to find probable cause for the separate charge of plunder, a non-bailable offense, filed against them in connection with the incident.
Sombero also faces a plunder case, while Lam faces a case for violation of PD 46 that prohibits government officials from receiving gifts from private individuals.
