(Eagle News) — Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is retiring in 2019.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Arroyo said she was not running for any public position after her term as Speaker of the House of Representatives expires next year.
“I am retiring…I don’t want to run for anything in 2019,” she said.
“I think there’s a time when you should retire, and I think..when you’re in your retirement age, you have more wisdom, are more tolerant, more willing to forgive and to learn,” she added.
With her pronouncement, Arroyo essentially debunked the opposition’s speculations she would eventually take over as prime minister should the Duterte administration succeed in its bid for constitutional amendments.
The Consultative Committee has submitted its proposed federal Charter, which is now under public scrutiny.
