The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines is encouraging manufacturers of electric and hybrid vehicles in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to explore the Philippine market, as the organization eyes the country as the EV production hub in the region.
E-VAP President Rommel Juan said industry players in ASEAN can look into opportunities in the Philippine market, with the existing demand to modernize the country’s mass transport system like jeepneys and tricycles.
He said the country has around 350,000 diesel-fueled jeepneys and 1.2 million gas-fed tricycles.
To gather EV and hybrid vehicle players in the region, E-VAP will hold the first ASEAN electric and hybrid vehicles summit from June 29 to 30 at the World Trade Center.
The summit will be part of the ASEAN national organizing committee’s series of events under country’s ASEAN chairmanship this year.
