(Eagle News) — THE Association of Southeast Asian Nations has strongly condemned the recent deadly blast in Davao, describing it as a terrorist attack, and at the same time reiterated its commitment to combat extremism and terrorism in all forms.
“ASEAN strongly condemns explosion, an act of terrorist attack, in Davao, the Republic of the Philippines on 2 September 2016, which caused the loss of lives and injuries. ASEAN extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the Government of the Philippines, especially to the families of the victims of the explosion,” the ASEAN said in a statement dated September 4.
The statement also said that the ASEAN “fully supports the Government of the Philippines in bringing the perpetrators of this violence to justice and returning the situation to normalcy.”
“ASEAN reiterates its commitment to working with the international community to combat violent extremism and terrorism in all their forms and manifestations, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whom so ever it is committed,” it added.
