At least 1 dead, over 20 injured in water tank explosion in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan

(Eagle News) — At least one person was killed and 21 were reported injured after a water tank burst in Bulacan on Friday.

Gina Ayson Su of the San Jose del Monte disaster risk reduction management office said Kimmie Garcia, 60 years old, died after the police aide was hit by debris floating in raging waters that escaped from the steel container being operated by the San Jose del Monte Water District in Barangay Muzon this morning.

The tank—which served the Kelsey Subdivision in Barangay Muzon and was “as high as a two-storey building” and could fit two houses–burst because of “pressure,” she said in a radio interview.

Injured in the incident were 21 others, majority of whom, she said, were children sleeping in the nearby “eight to ten houses.”

One of those was a one-year-old baby who was rushed to the intensive care unit.

“Rescue operations are still ongoing. (Those being rescued) so far include a couple who had been buried under the stones their house was made of,” she said.
