(Eagle News) — At least two members from the government side were killed in a clash with suspected New People’s Army members in Masbate on Friday, Aug. 3.
The military said members of the 22nd Infantry Battalion were on patrol operations when they were ambushed by the suspected NPA rebels in Barangay Mactan past 8 a.m.
It was unclear if there were casualties on the side of the rebels.
On Wednesday, an explosion allegedly triggered by an improvised explosive device rocked the Masbate City Port’s bridge.
The government has suspended peace talks with the Communist rebels, citing the need for the conduct of a public consultation beforehand.
