Baldoz urges returning OFWs to use POEA’s online system

MANILA, June 14 – Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz yesterday reiterated the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s advisory encouraging balik-manggagawa (BM) or vacationing overseas Filipino workers (OFW) to use the BM Online system to acquire their respective overseas employment certificates (OEC).

“The goal of the BM Online Processing System is to expedite the issuance of OECs to vacationing OFWs who will return to their respective foreign employers or principals. As a web-based facility, the system enables BMs or vacationing OFWs to apply online for overseas employment certificates and conveniently print the approved OEC anywhere, anytime,” said Baldoz

POEA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said that starting June 1, 2016, the POEA main office in Mandaluyong City will accommodate only those with appointment set through the online system.

The appointment system was developed as a built in component of the BM Online System to cater to OFWs who cannot proceed to the straight online processing of the OEC for any of the following reasons:

1.    No existing record in the POEA database

2.    Undocumented worker

3.    Changed employer and/or jobsite

4.    The worker or employer is on watchlist

5.    OFW is returning to a restricted country

6.    Former seafarer

Cacdac said may set an online appointment at the convenience of their homes for the processing of their OEC at their preferred date, time, and location.

“Returning workers may also get their OECs at the POEA’s offices in the provinces through the appointment system,” Cacdac said.

The POEA has offices in Baguio City, Tuguegarao City, San Fernando City (La Union), San Fernando City (Pampanga), Calamba City, Legaspi City, Tacloban City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City, Koronadal City, Butuan City, Zamboanga City, and Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

“We also operate Balik-Manggagawa Processing Centers at SM Manila and Trinoma in Quezon City,” Cacdac added.

The online system is available at www.bmonline.ph where users can view an instructional video for their guidance.
