Balutan calls for “full, impartial” probe into allegations of corruption during his term as PCSO head

(Eagle News)–Former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Alexander Balutan on Saturday, March 9, called for a “full and impartial investigation” if there were allegations of corruption during his term.

Balutan issued the statement after Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Friday, March 8, said the PCSO general manager was sacked by President Rodrigo Duterte due to “serious allegations of corruption.”

Minutes before, though, the PCSO office said Balutan had resigned due to “personal reasons.”

In seeking for the probe, Balutan said “career for me is just temporary but character is lifetime… even beyond my grave.”

In the first place, he said he did not ask for the PCSO post.

He said President Duterte “retired me early from the Marines to help him run his administration.”

“In silence, I did and I excel. I did not ask anything from the President in return. The rest was history,” Balutan said.

“I told all PCSO employees when I assumed as General Manager in 2016 that if somebody from the Office of the President or the Congress asks or orders me to do something which I cannot stomach, I will resign,” he added, without elaborating.

Earlier, Balutan came under fire after he admitted spending P6.4 million for the year-end party of the PCSO.

President Duterte however backed him then, saying that if the people were fed, “then OK.”
