(Eagle News)–Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa stressed on Sunday (September 18) that he did not ask for an extension in the anti-narcotics war, though thankful for the additional time given by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“I did not ask for an extension. (The extension is) better so that we finish this properly. We’re thankful because we were given additional time,” Dela Rosa said.
“He [President Duterte] saw that we were having a difficult time,” he added.
“We will continue this campaign on orders by our commander-in-chief and CPNP PDG Ronald Dela Rosa,” PNP Spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos seconded in a press statement.
It was on Sunday night when Duterte announced the need for a six month extension for his campaign against illegal drugs, saying he only realized how bad the situation was after taking presidency two months ago.
An updated total of 1,152 drug suspects have been killed in police operations while 715,393 drug suspects have already surrendered to the authorities.
