(Eagle News) — The Bureau of Immigration has ordered the deployment of over 50 immigration officers to several airports in time for the long holiday.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the deployment of the 58 officers to various field offices across the country aims to “minimize, if not eradicate, long queues of passengers” in immigration counters.
Of the 58, he said 38 were immigration officers assigned to the BI main office and other satellite offices in Metro Manila who were re-assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The remaining 20, he said, were re-assigned to airports in Mactan, Clark, Kalibo and Davao.
According to BI port operations division chief Marc Red Mariñas, who made the recommendation to deploy, all officers will report to their new assignments next week.
“We will continue to monitor the situation in our airports and see to it that the traveling public is provided with quick, efficient and hassle-free service by our officers as they enter or exit our international airports,” he said.
“We should not allow the international terrorists and other unwanted aliens to take advantage of the occasion and sneak into our country undetected,” he added.
