(Eagle News) — One of South Korea’s most wanted fugitives has been arrested in the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration said on Thursday.
BI Fugitive Search Unit Chief Bobby Raquepo said in a statement that Chun Tae Joon, 53, was nabbed by authorities along Kalayaan Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City on Tuesday, following a tip from an informant.
Chun, who was ordered arrested in 2005 over a $100-million construction investment scam that victimized 10,000 people, had been hiding in the country for “almost 13 years,” BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said.
“(Chun’s) victims were promised big returns that they were enticed to invest their money in a non-existent construction project,” Raquepo explained.
Morente said Chun, who is also listed “on top of the order of battle of authorities in Seoul,” was also an undocumented alien.
He said the Korean’s passport expired in 2009.
He said Chun was ordered expelled from the country six years later.
The Korean is set to be deported, and is now detained at the BI warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig City.
