(Eagle News) — Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon is seeking an inquiry into what he said was China’s “creeping militarization” in the West Philippine Sea.
House Bill 1856–which asked the Committee on National Defense and Security to conduct the probe—was filed following reports of China’s installation of missiles “capable of hitting surface to surface and surface to air targets on reclaimed islands..,” Biazon said in a statement.
According to Biazon, in particular, Q-9 surface-to-air missiles and YJ-12 surface to ship missiles with ranges of 257 kilometers and 475 kilometers were installed by China.
“It is in this light that I am calling on the House of Representatives, through proposed House Resolution No. 1856, to conduct an inquiry on this reported military intrusion into our EEZ and territory with the view of arriving at policy proposals or legislation to meet this challenge from a foreign power,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV also called for a probe into the alleged militarization.
