MANILA, May 23 — The Department of Tourism (DoT), in cooperation with Clark Development Corporation, is launching the CLARK BIKE TOUR on 30 July 2016, 5 am onwards at the Clark Parade Ground. Back to back with the bike tour is the BIKE EXPO on July 30 – 31, 2016 at SM City Clark.
The bike tour is aimed at creating widespread awareness on the value and importance of health and wellness as a lifestyle and at the same time promoting travel and tourism by pedaling one’s way to various destinations using the most environmentally sustainable mode of transportation and leisure travel. It also aims to promote Clark as a bicycle – friendly community.
The event on July 30 at the parade ground seeks to gather some 400 road bikers (divided into 100 teams at 4 members each) and participate in a day-long non-competitive bike-pedaling peer-friendly tour of the various attractions around the freeport zone. In short, it’s a friendly tour where bikers take time to visit a set number of tourist attractions or establishments, stop for hydration / snacks, take a groufie, post their photo on social media and end the day in a celebration of a successful journey.
The bike expo at SM City Clark, on the other hand, is meant to enjoin bicycle companies / shops and associations including bike enthusiasts to showcase their product line and services for the malling public to consider this mode of driving around the city.
Mechanics for the event:
Some 400 pre-registered bikers will be enjoined / required to form themselves into four (4) peer / family members of a team – altogether numbering to about 100 teams to begin the friendly touring event. Each team member is required to bring a bicycle and helmet and is enjoined to wear uniform of their choice. Some 15 hydration pit stops / boxes (preferably well-known tourist spots or commercial / business establishments) will be pre-identified to constitute a touring map which each team would take along during their tour around Clark. At gun start at 5 am in Clark parade ground, each team will begin to pedal their way around Clark (with the map in hand) to find their way to all the 15 pit stops / boxes for a 15-minute or so hydration, ‘groufie’ photo ops and snacks courtesy of the sponsoring establishments (Clark locators). While the teams are driving around Clark, some outdoor events take place at the parade ground to include on-bike tutorial for kids, lessons on bike safety and maintenance including tutorial on how to fix a flat tire, among other subjects. An exhibition of bicycles of various genre may be held during the day (retro-bikes, old classic, modern, lightest and antique bikes). At the end of the day, a refreshing cocktail party awaits the participating teams at the parade ground. Capping the day-long event is the distribution of certificates of participation, raffle draws, and prizes for such categories as most number of ‘likes’ on Facebook, best in uniform, friendliest teams, best family award, among other awards. Participating teams are all invited to SM City Clark for the launching of the Bike Expo.
