BJMP spokesperson: Cayamora Maute cause of death still “unknown”

(Eagle News) — Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death of Cayamora Maute, the father of the two brothers believed responsible for the Marawi siege.

In a radio interview on Monday, Senior Insp. Xavier Solda, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesperson, said this was according to the medical abstract signed by the doctor.

“Unknown po yung cause ng death niya,” Solda said.

He said as such, the doctor recommended that the 67-year-old undergo an autopsy.

Solda noted, however, that since Maute was committed to Camp Bagong Diwa on June 8, he would undergo regular checkups.

Maute is the father of Omar and Abdullah Maute, believed to be the brains of the Marawi siege that prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare martial law in Mindanao in May.

The 67-year-old was rushed to the hospital around 3 p.m. on Friday, after Solda said he had difficulty breathing, his blood pressure shot up, and his pulse went down.

He was declared dead minutes later.

His body has been turned over to his kin, who held a funeral service on Friday night.
