(Eagle News)- The Bureau of Customs Intelligence Group (BOC-IG) seized nine 40 footer container vans full of smuggled white sugar at the Port of Manila after an inspection on Monday.
The confiscated goods, which were declared as steel tube scaffolding, have an estimated value of P10 million that is yet to be fully paid by Lucky Sapphire Trading, the BOC told in a statement.
The container vans arrived at the Port Of Manila on August 11, and paid an entry fee at the Foodstuff and Beverages section.
The questionable report and procedure prompted BOC-IG to issue an order, and later an inspection.
The search revealed that the shipment contained refined white sugar from Malaysia.
Apart from misdeclaration, the consignee was found to have paid only P535,330, far from the estimated value of the shipment.
