(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte will call for a caucus of the leaders of PDP-Laban following factions in the ruling party.
Special Assistant to the President Bong Go said in a radio interview that all these members, after all, had enabled Duterte to secure the presidency.
Go made the comment a day after the group led by Willy Talag, chair of the membership committee of PDP-Laban-National Capital Region, “elected” its own set of leaders.
The “election” took place after PDP-Laban president Koko Pimentel was replaced by Senator Tito Sotto as Senate President, and PDP-Laban secretary general Pantaleon Alvarez was ousted and succeeded by Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as House Speaker.
Party leaders have condemned the action of the group that calls itself the “genuine” PDP-Laban.
“We wish to inform the party members and the public that these individuals have no authority to represent the party or its national council and are therefore usurpers of party authority and shall be dealt with in accordance with existing election and criminal laws and party rules,” a letter signed by Pimentel, Alvarez and PDP-Laban vice chair, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.
