(Eagle News) — “You made me a better president and you made me a better man.”
This was the statement of outgoing US President Barack Obama as he started his farewell speech in Chicago
The outgoing President stressed the power of faith and the power of democracy, no matter how contentious it is in America.
In his speech, Obama assured the “peaceful transfer of power” to the new US President elect Donald Trump, as he touted his administration’s achievements.
“We’re all in this together. We rise or fall as one,” he said.
He said “there have been moments in history that threatened our solidarity” but maintained that the greatest gift that the founders of the US nation gave to the American people was democracy.
He said America is now a better place today than before.
He also urged Americans to remove discrimination in their mindset, and to be open to all races of various colors living in America
“That is not easy to do,” he said.
