Brush fires rage in central Florida

POINCIANA, Florida (Reuters) — Firefighters battled a large brush fire in Poinciana, Florida on Friday afternoon (May 12).

The fires have burned through about 10 acres of land (40468.6 sq. meters) and heavy winds are expected to spread the fire over a wider area.

No injuries have been reported so far, but the fires have left hundreds of residents without power, local news reported.

Firefighters along with the Florida Forestry Service were working to protect nearby structures from the flames, Polk County officials said on social media, but the fire doesn’t pose an immediate threat to properties in the area, local media reported.
