Budget for CHR, NCIP, ERC to be used to fund free tertiary education, says lawmaker

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — The House of Representatives plans to transfer the supposed budget for the Commission on Human Rights, the National Commission for Indigenous People and the Energy Regulatory Commission to the budget for free tertiary education.

“That would be the treatment kasi where else can we put it except doon. Kasi naghahanap kami ng pondo para sa implementation ng Free Higher Education Law,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman Karlo Nograles said on Thursday, September 14.

The CHR, NCIP and the ERC were each given a Php1000 budget by the House of Representatives.

According to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the ERC has a proposed budget of Php 350. 95 billion, the NCIP  a proposed budget of Php 1.3 billion and the CHR  a proposed budget of Php 649.48 million.
