“Energy efficiency should not be treated as a stop gap,” Alexander Ablaza, Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance President said during the 1st Philippine Clean Energy Summit held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza on October 13, 2016.

Ablaza stressed the need to help the country meet its commitment to the Climate Change Paris Agreement, also known as COP21, by setting its roadmap to limit the effects of global warming to less than 2oC by 2100.

For impact investing leader James M. Donovan, the challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emission can be addressed by harnessing the power of data. “This will guide us on how to manage our energy mix and transition to clean energy,” he explained.

Donovan added, “Data is the new currency. Through data management, we can fast-track the shift to clean energy in the near future.” He is optimistic in advancing clean energy initiatives. As CEO of ADEC Innovations, a company that designs, develops and delivers diverse data and management solutions for the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) sector, he has helped some Fortune 500 companies with their energy management issues.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian assured the attendees of the summit that the administration has committed to build quality energy supply for the Philippines.

“We can deliver this through our ‘3S’ strategy, that is stable, sustainable and sulit energy,” he explained.

The 1st Philippine Clean Energy Summit serves as a platform that would regularly bring together high-level stakeholders across the country to discuss and develop national strategies for energy independence and clean energy towards the achievement of sustainability and economic growth.
