California shooters had weapons and bomb-making equipment

The two suspects who shot dead 14 people in San Bernardino, California, had more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition in their sport utility vehicle when they were killed in a shootout with officers, police said on Thursday (December 3).

Police recovered bomb-making material and additional ammunition in a search of a house related to the suspects and the suspects’ motive in Wednesday’s shooting is still not known, San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan told reporters.

He said the number of people wounded in the shooting had increased to 21. There is no indication of any threat to anyone in the area, Burguan added. Farook, 28, and his partner, Tashfen Malek, 27, had more than 1,600 rounds of ammunitions in their sport utility vehicle when they were killed in a shootout with officer, authorities said.

The couple stormed a holiday party attended by his San Bernardino County co-workers, in what appeared to be a planned attack before dying in a shootout with police, leaving a shaken community with few clues to deduce a motive for the carnage.

A U.S. citizen born in Illinois, Farook worked as a county environmental health specialist, inspecting restaurants and swimming pools for health violations, according to authorities and a website that tracks public employees.
