(Eagle News) — United Nations Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard on Friday, Sept. 28, slammed President Rodrigo Duterte after his remark his “only sin” were extrajudicial killings.

The Palace has said the President only meant critics were using only that issue against him, as they could hurl no other issue, not even corruption, against the former Davao mayor.

“Extraordinary statement by a Head of State (and we have had many this week at the UN): my “only” sin is #EJK.  Translation: my only sin is imposing unthinkable sufferings on 1000s of vulnerable families, emboldening corrupt policing, destroying rule of law,” Callamard said.

Callamard earned the ire of President Duterte after she criticized the government’s war against drugs, a move the President said was a form of intervention in Philippine affairs.

The “actuations and statement of UN special rapporteur Agnes Callamard and UN High Commissioner on Human Rights Zeid Raad Al-Hussein..readily show international bias and refusal of some sectors of the international community to support the Philippines legitimate efforts at self-determination, nation-building and independence from foreign influence and control,” ” Duterte said in explaining the country’s withdrawal from the International Criminal Court in March.

Duterte made the announcement after Senator Antonio Trillanes, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano and lawyer Jude Sabio filed  communication reports accusing President Duterte of crimes against humanity, among others, for the ongoing war against drugs, before the tribunal.
