LAS VEGAS, United States (Reuters) — Canelo Alvarez dominated and easily defeated fellow Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr, earning a unanimous decision win Saturday (May 6) night at the T-Mobile Center in Las Vegas.
Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 Knockouts) won all 12 rounds in defeating Chavez, Jr (50-3-1, 32 KOs) with all three judges scoring the fight 120-108 in match that was fought at an agreed upon catchweight of 164.5 pounds (74.6 kilograms).
Current middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin attended the fight and it was announced afterwards that Alvarez and Golovkin will fight later this year.
