According to PAGASA, Mindano will experience cloudy skies with thunderstorms due to the trough of the low pressure area. Visayas will experience rains due to the tail-end of the cold front. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will generally fair weather with partly cloudy skies and isolated rain showers. Expect cold weather brought by the north-east monsoon.
Malacañang asked to cancel Meralco Franchise
Malacañang refused to comment on the call to cancel Meralco’s franchise for allegedly passing its obligation to consumers by raising electricity rates. According to Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, it is the sole prerogative of the Congress to cancel the legislative franchise of Meralco, and is not within the ambit of the executive department.
Malacañang Asks DOE to Guarantee Adequate LPG Supply
Malacañang asked the Department of Energy to make sure that there is adequate supply of liquefied petroleum gas in the country. This is in the face of warnings from the LPG sector regarding the impending LPG supply shortage because of the closure of the Shell Batangas LPG Refilling Station. Department of Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla was asked to investigate the matter and to prevent the rise in prices due to the alleged shortage.

The new witness on the pork barrel scam investigation, Ruby Tuason faced the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Thursday (February 13, 2014), denying the accusations of Senator Jinggoy Estrada that her statements are scripted. Tuason said she’s only telling the truth. The hearing was headed by Committee Chairman Senator TJ Guingona. Also present in the hearing are Ben Hur Luy and other whistle-blowers on the pork barrel scam as well as Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.

The House Committee on Population and Family Relations approved the Centenarian Bill, a proposed law giving benefits to Filipinos who reached 100 years of age. Benefits include 30% discount on products and services and exemption from payment of VAT. The centenarian would also receive a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines as well as a cash gift worth Php 100, 000.
