Cayetano lashes back at US following State Department’s report vs PHL drug campaign

(Eagle News)–Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano  lashed back at the United States on Saturday, April 21, following a  report by the US State Department that human rights continue to be a major concern in the Philippines.

“We do not need others who think they know better than us Filipinos to tell us what to do. As a sovereign nation, the Philippines deserves the same kind of respect we have been extending to our friends in the international community,” Cayetano said in a statement.

In the first place, Cayetano said the Philippine government “remain(s) guided by the rule of law.”

He said the government only seeks to “promote the welfare and protect the human rights of all Filipinos— to save lives, to preserve families, to protect communities and stop the country from sliding into a narco-state.”

“The Philippines is a sovereign state with a fully functioning democracy led by a legitimately elected government that is getting things done for the Filipino people,” he said.

The US State Department’s report comes after  the European Parliament  issued a resolution calling on the Philippine government to end its drug campaign.

But Cayetano said the resolution was “biased.”
