CCTVs to be activated in MM – PNP

QUEZON CITY, 7 May (PIA) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will activate some 300 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems in crime prone areas of Metro Manila.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas said the target areas identified through an “Ink Blot” system, wherein there will be a certain point of priority area and in due course said strategy will spread to other places of public convergence.

The National Capital Police Region Office (NCRPO) identified the target crime-prone areas where CCTVs will be installed: Monumento, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Baclaran-Pasay, Taguig, Ermita, EDSA-West Ave., Quirino Highway, Commonwealth Ave., East Ave., Sampaloc and Tondo, Manila. These locations are part of the 13 Police Stations with identified crime-prone areas.

PNP Officer-in-Charge Leonardo A. Espina also said that the CCTVs will serve as a warning to individuals and groups who have criminal intent.

Espina also highlighted the installation of CCTV cameras around the University Belt area (UST, FEU and Bustillos) where high number of criminal incidents happens especially during enrolment period.

Likewise, selected personnel of the PNP Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management (DICTM) have placed an initial of 16 strategically located CCTVs in the corners of Pasay-Taft.

This project is the continuation of CCTV Project (Phase 1) which started early this year in all 5 District Offices and 38 Police Stations in Metro Manila.

The installation of CCTVs in Metro Manila is part of the PNP’s Metro Hawk Eye Project, an anti-crime initiative to ensure the safety of the public. (PNP/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)
