Cubao, Quezon City – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came back from a 17-point deficit to upset the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 96-94, in the 2017 PBA Commissioners’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Jeff Chan came up big as he initiated the comeback by scoring 14 of his 24 total points in the final quarter including the go-ahead and-1 with 7.7 seconds left.
Chan finished the game with 24 points, four boards and three triples while Shawn Taggart anchored the middle with 20 points and seventeen boards.
Jameel McKay had a dominating night with 27 points, eighteen rebounds, six assists and two blocks but his team fell short in the dying minutes.
With Rain or Shine’s comeback victory, both teams are now tied at 3-3. The Elasto Painters will face the San Miguel Beermen next on April 22, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
On the other hand, Phoenix will try to bounce back from the heart-breaking loss when they battle the Alaska Aces on April 21, Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
