RUSSIA (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, have signed a joint statement to further deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Under historic new conditions, the two countries will be devoted to further consolidating their relations based on equality, mutual support, common prosperity and an enduring friendship, and will seek to promote deeper political mutual trust, practical cooperation, security cooperation, people-to-people exchanges and international coordination, the document signed on Tuesday in Moscow said.
Past practices have proven China-Russia relations are mature and solid, are unaffected by outside environments, and serve as an example for harmonious coexistence and win-win cooperation between global powers and neighbors, according to the statement.
China-Russia relations have surpassed a bilateral level, which has become an important factor in safeguarding an international strategic balance and world peace and stability, it added.
The two heads of state jointly met representatives from non-governmental organizations, media and business enterprises after the signing ceremony in the Russian capital.
Xi said the two countries believe in their ability to strengthen bilateral relations despite a volatile international situation.
“No matter how the international situation changes, the determination and confidence of both sides in developing and deepening bilateral strategic cooperation will not waver. We will continue to regard the relations with each other as the priority of our diplomacy, to increase our support for each other on issues of key mutual interest, and to actively promote cooperation in various fields. We will make efforts to create strong and powerful China-Russia ties which will work as a booster for the development of the two countries and as ballast for the world’s peace and stability,” said Xi.
Xi also extended an invitation for the Russian president to visit China during the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit, which will be held in Xiamen city in September.
