China urges U.S. to “stop hyping up” South China Sea issues

China on Wednesday urged the united states to cease “hyping up” the South China Sea issue after President Barack Obama said Beijing must stop land reclamation in the disputed waters and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to the defense and security of the Philippines, one of the parties to the dispute.

“China’s construction activities on some islands and reefs of Nansha Islands are completely within china’s sovereign rights, which are reasonable and legitimate and it does not affect nor target any other countries. Other countries have no right to make irresponsible remarks. If there is something that must stop, that would be that the United State should stop hyping up the South China Sea issue,” Hong Lei, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said.

Hong said the military agreement “should not target the third party.” (Eagle News Service)
