CHINA (Reuters) – A Chinese mainland spokesman on Wednesday condemned Taiwan authorities for attempting to distort history in textbooks.
Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman of the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, told a media briefing on Wednesday that Taiwan’s history is an organic component of the history of China and the separatist de-Sinicizing activities have aroused strong indignation from the people in Taiwan.
It was earlier reported that Taiwan authorities want to put the history of China in a draft course outline of the chapter of the East Asia history for discussion.
Ma said: “Taiwan’s history is a history of the living and multiplication of the Chinese nation. It is a history of the growth and spread of the Chinese culture. It is a history of generation after generation of the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation in developing and building the Treasure Island and in their joint efforts against the foreign colonial rule. It is, of course, an organic component part of the history of China.”
Ma said the separatist de-Sinicizing activities are the perverse actions against the irresistible trend of history.
“The pro-independence forces in Taiwan have been doubling down on their de-Sinicizing activities in the areas of culture and education in an attempt to poison the minds of Taiwan’s younger generation with their ‘Taiwan independence’ viewpoint of history and go on to obliterate the sense of the Chinese nation from the minds of the Taiwan compatriots.”
“This has aroused strong indignation from the people in Taiwan. Such perverse action is nothing but kicking against the pricks in the irreversible trend of national reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” said Ma.
