(Eagle News) — Chinese President Xi Jinping could visit the Philippines this year, according to Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
Cayetano, said the talks on the Chinese leader’s visit are still going on after President Rodrigo Duterte first extended the invitation to Xi during his state visit in Beijing in October 2016.
He said President Xi readily accepted the invitation, and said that the best time to visit the Philippines might be this year.
President Duterte visited China in 2016 upon the invitation of the Chinese President.
Relations between the two countries had since warmed resulting in closer ties and open lines of communication between the two Asian leaders.
