MANILA, Philippines — Malacanang has announced the suspension of classes on all levels, both in public and private schools, in Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon affected by typhoon “Luis” (international name Kalmaegi) on Monday.
Upon recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the country’s weather bureau, Malacanang declared the class suspension for Monday for the following areas.
1. National Capital Region (Metro Manila)
2. Zambales
3. Tarlac
4. Nueva Ecija
5. Aurora
6. Pampanga
7. Bulacan
8. Bataan
9. CALABARZON
10. Mindoro provinces
11. Calamian group of Islands
CALABARZON is composed of the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
“Orange” rainfall warning raised over Metro Manila and surrounding provinces
As of 10 p.m. Sunday, PAGASA raised the “orange” rainfall warning in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces. These provinces include Bataan, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Rizal, Tarlac and Zambales.
An orange warning means that 15 millimeters-30 mm of rainfall is expected in the next two hours.
A yellow warning, on the other hand, is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour.
PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m. today, the eye of Typhoon “LUIS” was located based on all available data at 100 km West Northwest of Laoag City (18.4ºN, 119.7ºE) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 30 kph.
The provinces of Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur and Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan group of islands will experience stormy weather with rough to very rough seas. The provinces of Isabela, Benguet, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Pangasinan, La Union and Batanes group of islands will have rains with gusty winds. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flasfloods and landslides. Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over the rest the country with moderate to rough seas.
