(Eagle News) — Commission on Elections Andres Bautista is mulling “all options” following the filing of an impeachment complaint against him.
In an interview with reporters before a House committee deliberation on the Comelec’s proposed budget, Bautista said among these options was resignation or a leave of absence.
“Yun ang ating tinitimbang, kung ano ang ating susunod na hakbang,” he said.
He said he wanted to protect “first and foremost” the interest of his family and that of Comelec.
Asked for a reaction to the filing of an impeachment complaint against him on Wednesday, Bautista said he had yet to read the document.
The complaint–which cited as grounds for impeachment, among others, Bautista’s alleged ill-gotten wealth and his alleged failure to put in place measures that would have prevented a hacking of the Comelec website in 2016— was filed by lawyer Ferdinand Topacio and former Rep. Jacinto Paras, and was endorsed by three legislators.
Earlier, Bautista’s estranged wife Patricia said the Comelec chief could have over P1 billion in ill-gotten wealth.
