Comelec official calls out some candidates over illegal campaign materials

(Eagle News) — Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Friday, Feb. 22, called out several candidates for what she said were their illegal campaign materials.

Among those Guanzon berated were former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair Francis Tolentino, who is running for a Senate seat in the elections.

“I’m calling on the candidates especially candidate Tolentino whose billboard is still there in Pasay and I see that billboard every time I go to the airport,” Guanzon said.

Guanzon also called out a candidate whose “illegal” tarpaulin was visible in a barangay in Pasay.

“Barangay 156 Pasay City has a tarp of a candidate. That is illegal. Take it down & save the evidence,” she said.

Earlier, Guanzon released the names of over 40 candidates who, she said, had illegal campaign materials.

She later clarified the list only covers those campaigning in Metro Manila.
