Comelec: Printing of ballots for 2019 polls expected to be completed before April 25

(Eagle News)–The printing of ballots for the 2019 midterm elections is expected to finish earlier than the target date.

According to  Commission on Elections spokesperson James Jimenez, ballot printing may be completed before the start of the weeklong holiday in April,  earlier than the initial target date of April 25.

Jimenez said this was after 60.24% of the 63,662,481 total number of ballots, or  38,347,754, have already been printed as of March 19.

Although there are 61,843,750 registered voters for the May 13 polls, Jimenez said more than 1.1 million ballots will be used for the Final Testing and Sealing (FTS) process, while “the rest are demonstration ballots allotted for vote-counting machine (VCM) roadshow and demonstration purposes.”

He said printing at the National Printing Office went on full capacity on February 20, “with the printing machines cranking out an average 1 million ballots per day.”

He said the remaining ballots to be printed were for Regions I and II and the National Capital Region.
