Davao del Norte governor says preventive suspension ‘unjust’

(Eagle News)–The Office of the President has meted out a 60-day preventive suspension on Davao del Norte Gov. Edwin Jubahib, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said.

According to Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos, the preventive suspension order was signed  by Executive Secretary  Lucas Bersamin following an administrative complaint filed against the governor by “various parties” for the “alleged misuse of authority, potential oppression, and the utilization of government funds to advance the interests of a private party.”

Jubahib has said the complaint was filed by a board member of the province.

But in a video statement, Jubahib said the suspension was “unjust since I was not invited to face any trial or even before the Office of the President.”

“They just issued the preventive suspension from OP. Thus, it was a very clear act of injustice because it did not undergo a proper due process,” he said.

The DILG Region 11 has said Vice Gov.  De Carlo Uy shall be acting governor for 60 days following Jubahib’s suspension.
