Sara Duterte: Decision on whether to extend martial law in Mindanao following deadly Sultan Kudarat blast left to Palace, military, police

(Eagle News) — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on  Wednesday, Aug. 25, said the decision to extend martial law in Mindanao following the deadly blast in Sultan Kudarat was left to the military, the police and Malacanang.

“We follow the decision of the OP (Office of the President), AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines and PNP (Philippine National Police) because they are better informed by the intelligence units on the need to extend martial law in Mindanao,” she said in a statement.

Martial law in Mindanao will lapse on December 31.

Two people were killed and over 30 were injured after a bomb that had been placed in a motorcycle exploded in Insulan on Tuesday night.

Authorities said they suspected the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters were behind the attack, which took place during a town festival.
