(Eagle News) — Senator Leila de Lima on Friday, Sept. 28, thanked the Liberal Party for adopting a resolution condemning what they said was the political persecution against her.
According to De Lima, her party-mates’ “effort to fight with me and for me no matter the cost does not only remind me that I am not alone in my fight, but also further bolsters my courage to tirelessly defy my oppressors and resist the breakdown of the rule of law and the rise of a culture of impunity.”
“[De Lima’s] arrest and continuing incarceration have been preceded and accompanied by a vicious and unprecedented campaign of personal vilification, character-assassination, and slut-shaming from no less than the Philippine president and his allies,” the LP said through Resolution No. NECO-2018-02 adopted on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
The LP also noted that such “attacks” were “inextricably connected to her staunch and outspoken criticisms of the current administration’s so-called war on drugs and other anti-human rights policies,” proposing the creation of a task group within the party that will “closely coordinate with De Lima, her office, defense team, and other individuals assisting her with work-related concerns to help improve her personal and working conditions.”
