Despite calls for him to resign, Faeldon to stay as Customs Commissioner

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte decided to retain Nicanor Faeldon as Customs Commissioner amid hearings being done at the House of Representatives on the controversial Php 6.4 billion worth of shabu that managed to pass through the Bureau of Customs.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said that the President still expressed confidence and trust in  Commissioner Faeldon.

“The President has met Bureau of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon (Tuesday) afternoon. The Chief Executive has expressed his full confidence in Commissioner Faeldon and told him to focus on serving the country,” Dominguez said.

President Duterte made the decision to retain Faeldon despite the calls made by lawmakers allied to the President to remove Faeldon from his position because of his alleged gross negligence and incompetence in preventing the entry of large illegal drugs shipments to the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella also said that President Duterte still trusts Faeldon and ordered the Customs Commissioner to do a better job.
